Staying Safe
Obviously you don't want to be someone
else's firework.
While it may not keep you safe you should always remember
to NOT FLY WHAT YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO
LOSE. You will be a whole lot
less frustrated when you get blown up and you are able to replace everything as
soon as you get to a trade hub.
Now for the "Stay Safe" part, setting up your
overview is vital to your success and your life. While you can set it up however you wish I
have a few layouts which I use.
Travel Layout:
This will be the tab which you have on
your overview most of the time.
·
Open up your overview options and click on the "Filters"
tab and hit "Deselect All".
·
Select the "Types" tab.
·
Open up the "Celestial" folder and
checkmark "Beacon, Covert Beacon, Stargate, Sun, Warp Gate,

Window Positions:
You want to keep your field of view
open for the loot spew mechanic but you also want other windows large enough
for gathering intel. Here is how I have
my layout, but make sure you fit things where they make sense for you.
I have my windows bunched together when I'm hacking
because it allows my eyes to be in the same general area and this means I can
notice flashy things and color changes easier.
It also allows me to bounce back and forth between clicking on the
hacking window and clicking on d-scan.
D-scan:
This is your buddy, become acquainted for he
shall probably save your life.
A key thing to remember is that d-scan will not
automatically update, it requires you to click on the little scan button. So make sure you are clicking it as often as
you can while hacking. You want the
"Use Active Overview Settings" option check marked, the angle set to
360 degrees, and the distance set to the maximum 2,147,483,647. D-scan will detect whatever is on your
overview even if it is not on grid with you.
Being able to see if there are ships near you or moving towards you, as
well as picking up scanning probes will give lots of warning you need to bail
out of the site.
Tips:
·
After you have jumped into a system hold cloak
and do a couple things:
1.
Check the overview.
2.
Hit d-scan.
3.
Look at who's in local.
·
When at a hacking site and there's a lot of
ships in system lower your scan range to 1,147,483,647. If there are still too many ships on d-scan
lower it further 147,483,647. Doing this
gives a good indication if someone is warping to the site and you should bail.
·
Be paranoid, if it feels fishy it very well
might be.
·
NEVER
return to a hacking site where you just escaped being blown up.
·
If someone kills you, or tries to kill you add
them to your contacts with one of the color standings to help identify them in
local.
·
Use the notes when you look at someone's info,
write in what they attacked you with, whether they were waiting for you, if
they had a cloak, just write everything.
·
Make "safe" spots throughout systems
you will travel through and above gates.
The more places you have to warp to that someone else most likely
doesn't have can be a saving grace.
·
Make safe undocks in every system you normally
visit, while not as prevalent in high security space, when in low and null it
will save your life.
§ Safe
undock is a point directly away from where a station spits you out. Because you are spit out going faster than
your max speed as soon as you click the warp button you should be gone before someone
can target you.
§ To
make one, undock from the station, activate your microwarpdrive, don't change
course and keep going till you are 500+ km away from the station.
·
Be super attentive with your overview, d-scan,
and local windows when hacking or dealing with the loot spew. Often times a cloaked enemy will wait till
you are engaged with these activities because most explorers get tunnel vision
and don't pay attention to those windows.
·
Bounce between hacking and hitting d-scan, do it
frequently, about every five nodes you click you should switch over and click
d-scan a couple of times.
